Yarn is my passion.
Special effects like tonal, speckles, long stripe socks, variegated, and fades are sometimes a secret method and sometimes just a mistake! I fervently support the British wool industry, but also have a line of hypoallergenic alternatives including Shropshire heritage lambswool and local alpaca and the vegan fibre Tencel. I work to high sustainable standards, being conscious of water use, energy use, and the impact of the dyes and exhaust water (water that has been used for dyeing).
Hello, my name is Clare. I named my business Wild Field Fibre because I love wildlife and being a little wild myself. Fields are where most fibres are grown or raised (plants or animals), and I loved the juxtaposition between a wild field (fields being cultivated most of the time). My surname is Atfield, so it is also a little play on words too!
I am a conscientious small-business woman with an interest in promoting sustainable and ethical choices for those interested in using hand-dyed yarns for all manner of crafting. I have a profound passion for yarnwork, particularly knitting. I support, encourage, and hope to enable people to yarn craft as much for the joy of it as well as it being a mindful occupation and a stress reliever.
Additionally, I enjoy the banter and socialising that comes with attending markets and the opportunity it affords to meet my customer base as well as discuss all things yarnie.
Besides all that, and in no particular order, I am a mum, a Long Covid sufferer, a British-born Canadian, and a Capricorn.
